History of H.I.S. Ministries, Horses In Service:

"Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness..."

In 2006, Sidney and Leslie Clark from Ridgeville South Carolina opened their home and hearts to honor and glorify God by using their horses to bring hope and healing to families and individuals through the word of God. They felt the call to “Go ye into all the world, and preach the good news to all creation” Mark 16:15; and take your one wild horse with you. It was a step of faith to take our horse out into the community and share the gospel but we did and we stood on the word of God "I tell you the truth, if you have faith as tiny as a mustard seed..." Matthew 17:20.

Many who love the Lord volunteered their time, talent, resources, and their prayers to help H.I.S. Ministries grow and serve the Tri county areas of Charleston, Berkeley, and Dorchester Counties. Through the many outreaches to the community, this body of volunteers began to see first hand the healing and the hope that comes through interaction with horses and the word of God.

  • Our first “Halter Call” in the fall of 2007: Five children received God’s greatest gift when they invited Jesus into their heart.
  • Our second “Halter Call” in the fall of 2007: Sixteen children received God’s greatest gift and invited Jesus in their heart.
  • In 2008, we had six “Halter Calls”: Over 60 children received God’s greatest gift and invited Jesus in their heart and hundreds more heard the presentation of the Gospel.

  • In 2009, we had two Halter Calls: Over 25 children received God's greatest gift and invited Jesus into their heart.

In the summer of 2007, we began working with Youth Empowerment Services (Y.E.S.) in Charleston, South Carolina. We worked with teenagers on building leadership skills, teambuilding skills, and community service projects. Their boy’s summer camp came out and did a community service project on the farm. They had a fantastic time. Some had never been on a farm and when it came time to collect the chicken eggs, well, instead of eating the eggs, they wanted to take them home and hatch them.

In 2008, the boy’s summer camp from Y.E.S. led a community service project to help get our center ready to start a therapeutic horseback riding program for wounded service men and women called NARHA Horses for Heroes. We incorporated a teambuilding activity with leadership skills and the community service project. The winner of the teambuilding activity picked the project to build a wash rack for the horses. They learned about the construction trades. They learned about digging and laying a foundation and project management. They learned how to mix and pour cement. They learned how to use plum lines, levels, and post hole diggers.  These are skills sought after in the construction, architectural and engineering career fields.

Also in 2008, Rein & Shine, a therapeutic riding center located in beautiful Awendaw, South Carolina, assisted us in becoming a 501 (c) (3) therapeutic riding center. Our therapeutic riding center was birthed out of their center. Susan Mincey, President, Stuart Foss, Executive Director, and Sarah Hinson, Administrative Director, have given so much of their time, talent, and resources to help us. We have now helped another center, LOVE for TR, in Bluffton, SC in their effort to become a 501 (c) (3). Thanks for your help Rein and Shine! Blessings to you and LOVE for TR.

In 2008,We joined the national organization, NARHA, whose mission is to change lives by promoting excellence in Equine Assisted Activities and Therapies to seek accreditation. The NARHA Premier Accredited Center (PAC) Program will give us the chance to demonstrate our excellence in providing quality equine assisted activities. This voluntary process recognizes NARHA centers that have met established industry standards.
